Two Lyft drivers killed in Cleveland in separate attacks 36 hours apart

Two Lyft drivers were killed in separate shootings in Cleveland within 36 hours, raising concerns for rideshare drivers’ safety as police search for the killers.

56-year-old Antoine Latham was shot in the head inside of his car late Sunday night while driving for Lyft.

The shooting happened just before 10 p.m. near East 103rd and Rosehill.

First responders initially thought they were responding to a car crash before discovering Latham suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was taken to the hospital, but later died.

Lyft said it permanently banned the rider and is helping police with the investigation.

Early Tuesday morning, officers found a 27-year-old driver shot in the torso and slumped over his steering wheel on East 84th Street.

According to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner, he was Vasyl Shvets from Parma.

The car had crashed into a dumpster, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

“Upon further investigation, our homicide unit was able to determine that this individual was a Lyft driver. Obviously, we had a similar incident a couple of days ago,” Sergeant Freddy Diaz said.

Cleveland police are investigating both homicides, but don’t believe the two shootings are related.
