Fireworks blast in Temascalcingo leaves 10 dead and 64 injured
At least 10 have been killed and 64 wounded in a pyrotechnics explosion at the terrace of the Santa María Canchesdá church in Temascalcingo, Mexico state, according to state authorities.
The blast took place on the night of Saturday, September 5, the night before the town's Virgin Mary festival, while a crowd had gathered near the church.
According to preliminary information from the state government released at 9:30am Sunday morning, the incident took place when fireworks material being stored in a space used by a store adjacent to the church exploded. The blast caused the collapse of a retaining wall, which entombed a number of people beneath debris.
