The modern English government was forged during that era. The thirty years war gave birth to the map everyone was fighting over during both world wars. Hobbes and Locke were active. America was also being settled and the first colonies were established in what would become are country

So what. Not everyone is obsessed with history and dates. Not being able to name anything doesn't contradict a high iq. What about genius indigenous peoples living on islands or in sub-saharan Africa who have never even heard of Europe?

People talk about shit that happened in the 18th and 19th centuries all the time, so the 17th really shouldn't be a big mystery

I always liked 17th better than 18th and 19th. So many great thinkers coming out of Europe during that time.

Historymos always try to cope with this shit. Anyone with an interest can string together the textbook highlights if they have an interest or cause for it. Being familiar isn't a sign of intellect. I have an uncle who I suspect has subpar literacy but holds forth on military history like an oxford don just because he's super interested. Jackoffery over Euro history is dying art so god bless you but don't mistake this liberal arts "well educated" finger-sniffing with being smart.
