Key Precedents for Conflict in the Strait:
The Tanker War (1984–1988): Iraq initiated a campaign to halt Iranian oil exports, leading to reciprocal attacks on ships.
Operation Earnest Will (1987-1988): The U.S. Navy escorted Kuwaiti tankers, one of the largest naval surface operations since WWII.
Operation Praying Mantis (1988): Following the mining of the USS Samuel B. Roberts, the U.S. destroyed Iranian oil platforms and vessels, demonstrating a high-intensity retaliatory response.

Problem is, this stops their ships and China's as well. A little oil revenue might come in handy for Iran at some point as well.
