Why not, hear me out, go after the employers hiring illegals? With massive fines ($100k per illegal?) plus jail time. Seems like that would be 100x more productive then driving around and searching for them on the street. |

To some extent I think Trump's hands are tied because Congress will not pass a law to do this. The amount of pressure put on congressmen by "big meat" (protein processors) alone would nuke it.
I'd rather Trump use the Bully Pulpit to promote this sort of bill rather than what he's doing 100%. Fuentes has spoken about this at length: all the ICE stuff does is give the mentally ill left something to rally around without actually delivering real results. It's play act fascism without getting the trains to run on time.
What's more, this is one of the issues when any new administration is trying to make even somewhat radical change. The only people who will take the top jobs are going to be true believers, not necessarily great administrators. Kristi Noem is a hot piece of ass and may be fairly ideologically aligned with Trump, but she's not going to lead DHS effectively. And I'm not sure you could get anyone more effective into the job on account of how much heat they'd take (either from libtards or from big lobbyists.) |

My view with Trump is he is heavily constrained by the people who basically tried to kill him (and subsequently bought him off as part of the deal), but he’s trying to act to the extent he can within those constraints.
I also think he’s probably more of a mind to get rid of the real detritus migrant groups as opposed to every Mexican who is here (as they are actually more chill and can be policed more reasonably.)

They are almost always victims of fraud. The grifters aren't using fake id's any more, that's a dead concept in the digital era. They're using an actual ID that belongs to somebody else. Under the IRCA, employers aren't allowed to ask follow up questions if it's a genuine document (it is) and it kind of looks like the guy (it is, they're obviously not stupid enough to use an ID that belongs to somebody totally different). Employers would love there to be stricter screening, but the government doesn't really facilitate this and it also bans the employers from doing it themselves. One great reform would be to alert employers if an employee of their has their SSN/ARN used at multiple jobs-- if the same SSN pops up at six places in one month, then everybody using it is either a victim or perpetrator of identity fraud. But they don't do this.
ICE is a good start, but we need massive policy reform to drive out the invaders. |
