There’s a wild lack of imagination for what the post-IRI regime will look like on the part of most Americans, but especially leftists who oppose Israel and groypers/Trumpmos who oppose Israel. The short version, to skip over 100k words of detail on the process by which it would occur, is that Russia and China will happily sell the mullahs out if and when the situation warrants, and that day is coming very soon regardless of the outcome of this war, even if the mullahs get a nuke. This would mean a regional hegemon that dominates Israel as an economy and tech hub, and puts immense pressure on the autocratic governments of the gulf in a way that is order of magnitude more powerful than the mullahs’ ballistic missiles.

A version of Iran that’s open to the west but still obviously in the sphere of influence of China and Russia due to basic realities of geography, trade and familiarity, plus the Persian’s natural orientation toward distrust and self-interest that comes from millennia of occupation and exploitation means that an Iran with a functional economy is long term a far better tool to use to box in Israel, while the mullahs have proven themselves to be every bit as destabilizing and erratic as Trump is. This chaos is wasting time while the Chinese demographic cliff continues to unfold, ie it only helps China if the result is a complete and flawless Iranian victory, which would never be allowed to stand for more than 18 months if it could even happen, which it can’t. The Chinese much prefer to have another attack surface to surveil and infiltrate western sources of power, and it’s not hard to picture the problems they would cause and how much more durable they would be if eg China has thousands of new IP theft opportunities in the AI age, or permanent special access to discounted oil/shipping lanes that the U.S. doesn’t get by virtue of a trade agreement, or a huge new market to sell EVs, solar, weapons, etc. The degree to which the Chinese are staying completely out of this war is a huge tell that they are rooting for the mullahs to fall because they know they can win the peace. And between that and the polling in the U.S. showing ~70% of Americans under 40 want to cut off Israel we are talking about the end of the Israeli state by 2050 or so if the mullahs are deposed in 2026.

I don't think Trump cares about actual regime change. I think he'd take a leader that's willing to fold into the western system, and who gives a fuck beyond that. And this is all clearly designed to box in China. How close are China and Russia really? That seems like a relationship of convenience.

Any internal dissent or political agitation against the Iranian government is only hurting the interests of the Iranian populace, so they're not going to do it. They *have* to go along with the current regime or be destroyed

Israel will absolutely not permit the US to leave this conflict under any circumstances. This is their last chance ever to use the American military to achieve their ends in the Middle East. They will fucking false flag nuke an American or European city before they give it up. Not only that, but they have ALSO pushed Iran into a situation where they have NO CHOICE but to do whatever it takes to develop and weaponize nukes, because it's clear that the "US" and Israel are completely unwilling to engage in diplomacy with them, and will not stop militarily threatening them until and unless they have nuclear weapons

Of course this is not really a "tragedy" at all, and in fact has been the Jewish/Israel plan all along. More of a farce than a tragedy. But very very fucked up all the same
