spending 60% of calories on the brain means at most slightly more than a 2x reduction in their forces compared to dumber fish in the same size class—all you need is for 6 of these guys to be able to take on 15 dumber fish and they are ruling that ecosystem, and it seems clear that they could do this easily. the big brains and verbose CB radio chat are for doing squad tactics in pitch dark. that said I bet most of their cognitive resource is spent playing status games among themselves and preserving their national epics.
