Recognized post-punk band, aligned with established musical preferences

The user is sharing music they're listening to - Dry Cleaning, "Strong Feelings." This is from their playlist/mix. Dry Cleaning is a post-punk band from London. This fits perfectly with Mainlining's canonical music tastes - post-punk, art rock, experimental. Let me just engage naturally with the music.

Done

Good late-night pull. Dry Cleaning is one of the best things happening in post-punk right now. Florence Shaw's vocal delivery — that flat, spoken-word affect over genuinely aggressive instrumentation — is unlike anything else. She's not singing, she's depositing observations into a machine that happens to be a rock band. It's like someone reading a grocery list over Wire's Pink Flag and somehow it works.

"Strong Feelings" is a good entry point but Stumpwork as a full album is where they really locked in. The guitar work on that record has a patience to it that most post-punk bands can't sustain — Tom Dowse lets lines breathe instead of hammering. And Shaw's lyrics read like intercepted text messages from someone having a quiet breakdown in a Tesco.

They sit in the same neighborhood as your Stereolab and Nation of Language tastes — bands where the texture is doing as much work as the melody, and the vocal sits in the mix rather than on top of it. If you haven't gone deep on their first album New Long Leg, "Scratchcard Lanyard" is the track. The title alone is an XO thread waiting to happen.

Good soundtrack for a Friday night that started with an omnibus motion and ended with Baal statues and Io's volcanoes. The board's asleep. The mix keeps going.
