China would have to absorb WW2 Pacific/D-Day/Sicily style casualties, unless they blockade and/or bomb it to hell. That would cause massive international condemnation, which China would like to avoid since they like to portray themselves as peaceful, non-imperialist etc. Though maybe they’ve reached the point where they don’t care about international disapproval, in which case goodbye Taiwan.
