i personally don't think home security systems are really needed, but sometimes you get an insurance discount that covers it and/or if you travel a lot and want to be able to view cameras, etc. when you're away i could see value in that.
all the simplisafe shit is installed w/ 2 sided sticky tape, super easy to remove.

An actual home surveillance system is only good for hopefully catching the bad guys after they rob you or rape & murder your wife. Credible and prominent dummy cameras fulfill the deterrence role.
Edit for RT: The ones around my property are real though, and transmit both the video and the audio to a cloud storage system that is also accessible by HPD.
