My wife has contemplated going the homeschool route. She taught k-3rd for almost a decade so I'm sure she could handle it. That said, our local public schools are very good, 85%+ white and few if any blue hair freak teachers. |

Most school is complete bullshit. Most of the teachers are idiots. It's a good thing school means almost nothing, especially compared to a kids innate abilities. I read a study about all these early learning techniques and at best it gave the kid maybe a year up on his peers, but that year was easily made up by the kids that didn't do the programs in a matter of weeks.
It's all bullshit. That's why I take my boys out of school once a week at 1:00 to go hit balls at the baseball facility. My wife and the teachers tried to give me some guilt and it took everything in me to not tell them what I really think of 'school.' |

We used a style called unschooling where the child's interests guide what they study and pursue. So they are ridiculously knowledgeable about areas they took a liking to. Most neglected would be advanced math. Also, penmanship since they were on a keyboard from get go. Excelled in history, astronomy, humanities and art. Talks at a professor level about astronomy, the world wars, and world events and European/American history.
Also, speaks with maturity beyond what even average adults are capable of. Doesn't mince words. Most kids throw in like, like, like every sentence whereas it's as if they skipped the whole talking like your peers and went straight to adult speak. |
