Everyone hated it at the time and I IMMEDIATELY switched back to the classic win95/win98 style. Many such cases

Windows 2000 was Peak Windows. The first NT release that was generally usable outside servers (good support for standard win95/win98 applications) but didn't get include any of the goofy XP and later Aero design language.

Simple. Stable. Clear UI/UX. It's all we really ever needed. We can still go back

Wait I'm confused are we talking about operating systems or Autoadmit (not that I'm complaining, both are 180 topics of conversation)

Yeah they went too far with it.

As a Linux guy I never liked KDE for that reason. I will say that I did like the flashy, glassy icons though.

KDE is pretty nice now. I think it's actually the best desktop for non-nerds across any OS these days

I always liked GNOME 2. Hated GNOME 3 so I've gone with MATE ever since.

My Thinkpad X220 is getting a tad old so I'm thinking about trying LXQt on it to eek out as much performance as possible. It's been years since I bothered giving different desktops a spin.
