1. eating well enough to have adequate fat stores so you have some padding when you fall. that way, you don't break bones and end up in the hospital after every fall

2. maintaining muscle mass. that way you have the muscular strength (and hopefully balance) to reduce falls and their severity

if you just get fat, you will have to deal with increased joint pain and reduced mobility that increases the risk and severity of falls. and of course, you have all the cardiovascular risks of obesity

if you get skinny and too frail (especially for older women) that's a problem too
