The metaverse required that you put on a goofy VR headset that was always going to be niche and pretend like you were living irl. It peaked when everyone was locked down during COVID and libs like you were earnestly suggesting that the lockdowns will actually be "a new normal." I still have my Quest 3 and the last time I used it was something like 6-10 months ago.
AI is built into everything you already do (searching for stuff online, dealing with chats to get a refund on an order, trying to pick out a new car or boat or whatever, etc.).
By the way, people who think AI is "just a fad" need to talk to Gen Zers. I get my hair cut at this place where everyone is a female 20-something. When they found out that AI was a focus of mine they all got excited and started telling me how they go to AI for everything. They don't search using Google they just go to Gemini. They use it for homework, for socialization, to ask if some online dating profile has red flags, etc. The first thing they do for anything is turn to AI.
