https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/COVID-19_lab_leak_theory

The COVID-19 lab leak theory, or lab leak hypothesis, is the idea that SARS-CoV-2, the virus that caused the COVID-19 pandemic, came from a laboratory. This claim is highly controversial; there is a scientific consensus that the virus is not the result of genetic engineering, and most scientists believe it spilled into human populations through natural zoonosis (transfer directly from an infected non-human animal), similar to the SARS-CoV-1 and MERS-CoV outbreaks, and consistent with other pandemics in human history.[1][2] Available evidence suggests that the SARS-CoV-2 virus was originally harbored by bats, and spread to humans from infected wild animals, functioning as an intermediate host, at the Huanan Seafood Market in Wuhan, Hubei, China, in December 2019.[6][7] Several candidate animal species have been identified as potential intermediate hosts.[14] There is no evidence SARS-CoV-2 existed in any laboratory prior to the pandemic,[15][16][17] or that any suspicious biosecurity incidents happened in any laboratory.[18]

Many scenarios proposed for a lab leak are characteristic of conspiracy theories.[19] Central to many is a misplaced suspicion based on the proximity of the outbreak to the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV), where coronaviruses are studied. Most large Chinese cities have laboratories that study coronaviruses,[20] and virus outbreaks typically begin in rural areas, but are first noticed in large cities.[21] If a coronavirus outbreak occurs in China, there is a high likelihood it will occur near a large city, and therefore near a laboratory studying coronaviruses.[21][22] The idea of a leak at the WIV also gained support due to secrecy during the Chinese government's response.[15][23] The lab leak theory and its weaponization by politicians have both leveraged and increased anti-Chinese sentiment.[24]

the real canary in the coal mine for wikipedia was when in about the middle of 2018 the obsessive shut-in shitlibs who have captured the site deleted the "Cultural Marxism" page and replaced it with a "Cultural Marxism conspiracy theory" page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cultural_Marxism_conspiracy_theory

the decline of the site as a whole was rapid and irreversible after that moment

Their characterization of Douglas Mackey is equally terrible:

They discussed ways to frame Hillary Clinton as a "warmonger" and to promote the narrative that Bernie Sanders had been "cheated" in the Democratic Party primaries, to stir his supporters' resentment against Clinton and the Democratic Party.[13] Vaughn and others promoted the #DraftOurDaughters hashtag falsely implying that Clinton would draft women into the military, when her position was that women should be required to register for the draft but not that the draft should be activated,[14] and made memes suggesting to left-leaning voters that their friends secretly intended to vote for Trump.[3] The New York Times described these disinformation campaigns as being run with "surgical precision", as they looked for ways to make them more viral and "dissected changes in wording and colors to make their messages more effective".[4]
