It costs the US effectively nothing, and Ukraine is significantly less effective without it even if the EU steps up to the plate on weapon systems deliveries.
The paths forward are (1) a strengthened NATO aligned bloc and isolation/weakening of a key Chinese ally, or (2) a weakened NATO aligned bloc and a strengthened Chinese ally. Trump is pushing hard for the 2nd outcome because he wants to tell his low IQ supporters he’s a Nobel peace prize-worthy POTUS, and he doesn’t care about long term geopolitical consequences (or more likely he’s too simpleminded to understand them). |
