Your dryer won't dry clothes because it hasn't gotten a firmware update and is stuck on cool mode

Your sprinklers haven't worked for two weeks because they're too old to be compatible with your new router security features

You can't turn up the thermostat because the app won't load on your phone anymore

Last week my ceiling fan became disconnected from its wall switches and in order to turn its light off so that I could go to bed I had to go and kill the circuit at the breaker box.

I don't understand how a washer and dryer being on the internet can help in any sort of way

The sprinkler I do understand, it's nice if that shit can adjust itself to the weather. There's an open source project for that, OpenSprinkler. Probably will last longer than commercial stuff

They sell it as features "Oh it has ultra load balancing etc." - but then your washer just yells at you because its mad you put a towel in the wash with a t-shirt.

Just fill up with soapy water and spin around and stfu. Who asked for a sensor to see it the load was balanced?

It's like people looked at the ease of use and reliablity of printers (i can't connect to the computer that a cable is running too derp derp derp) and thought - what if we applied this to everything?

i am regularly berated by my fridge. its created a spread sheet of percieved slights and it, and the freezer, are now plotting against me. the dishwasher is in on it too, and pretty sure the microwave will be next to join their Triad of Evil. im only eating out now but i cant help but notice my car engine light has come on even thought I've just changed the oil and topped up the coolant fluid. Nobody... trusts anybody anymore.

95% of this tech is a waste. We should be focused on getting items to their final form or increasing their efficiency and then stopping.
