Thinking of doing Istanbul to Riga over ~3-4 months

My initial idea, having never been to any of these places, is to go Istanbul - Sofia - N. Mac - Belgrade - Budapest - Vienna - Prague - Warsaw - Vilnius - Riga.

But this route misses Romania entirely.

While I am generally interested in former soviet shit, mustachioed men, and scheming women, this will likely be my only visits to these places so I would like to see many of them, but would be open to slowing down, staying in one place longer. Also open to planes / trains / buses to get around.

Recs?

I'd try to work Albania in before it gets even more pozzed w shrew tourism. Assuming this is around spring/summer they have beautiful beaches that will be exploited and ruined. As for your list:

Istanbul: Generally a very interesting city with lots of history, also lots of brown scammers and the traffic has become unbearable in recent years. If you haven't been def need to go.

Sofia: Surprisingly nice city, had a lovely time here, enough to see to warrant a ~3 day stop, fun nightlife. Didn't make it anywhere else in Bulgaria.

N.Macedonia: Skopje is a shithole but a unique looking one, 2 days probably good for that, try to get to Lake Ohrid it's really nice.

Belgrade: Shockingly nice people, decent amount of stuff to see between history and Yugoslav wars, some of the hottest women in the world, all constantly done up. Great nightlife, try to get here over a weekend.

Budapest: Wonderful city.

Vienna: Nice museums, schnitzel but quite boring and lately filled to the brim with mussies, 2-3 days.

Prague: Haven't been in years but assume by now it's all "digital nomads" and drunk brits pissing on each other. Still worth 3-4 days.

Warsaw: 90+% destroyed during WW2 so everything in the "old town" is a reproduction. The Soviet buildings are neat, decent museums and nightlife. Try to get to Krakow also it's surprisingly CR. I haven't been but people tell me Gdansk is a ripper as well.

Vilnius: Interesting place with good stuff from the Lithuania-Poland period and Soviet history if you're into the Cold War. Cepelinai I think are their local specialty. I think I had some sort of beaver stew also. Nightlife so so.

Riga: Also lots of hot girls, old town is very nice. There's a WW3 bunker hidden under a retirement home like 30 min outside the city, worth a tour. Get latvian garlic bread, it fucks.

Initial thought is that there is more to these places than capital city hopping. If your capital city outline is just an outline, fine. But don’t just do capital cities.

this is very cr. I just don't know these places to be able to pick out second and third tier cities. maybe you do?

one of the reasons I am willing to take TTT eastern bloc trains is that maybe I can hop off in some smaller place

i recall doing a route like this, i started in IST and took bus over border to bulgaria. i recall taking some trains maybe from bulgaria to the next snow nigga country (romania?)

u can do entire area pretty easily with just buses, trains are mostly shit though i think they haev some new ones in gorgeous hungary

i didnt mind it, but im into soviet artchitecture and urban planning and it maeks me horny. back then i wasnt use to this ex USSR vibe so didnt understand why everyone seemed so unhappy but now i prefer this vibe

none of those big cities except budapest deserve more than 2-3 nights so u can see a bunch easily. i didnt go to smaller towns except in like monteNEGRO where i went to some beach place

overall id rather travel in EE than WE which is full of birdshit reetards

Id skip n mac and belgrade.

take the route through Romania. Bucharest is fine, brasov, sighisoara, sibiu are all cool spots along the way to budapest.

Brno is on the way from Vienna to prague.

Then stop at kutna hora and krakow on the way to warsaw

Yw pumo.

If you ignore this then at least intend to spend little time in nmac or belgrade. The jewel of Macedonia is lake ohrid. It's far off course but highly recommend.

One night in Belgrade is too much. Novi sad is on the way to budapest and is a college town. Better to spend the night there imo.

Timisoara is the Romanian version just a bit off course. I've never been there but I've spent time in all of these other places.

Train from belgrade to budapest is sps so taking Buses tp is the credited response and you can go to places that aren't just capitals.

Capital to capital is a miserable way to travel (this is what retarded tt does) and they all just blur together.

this sounds good for your first visit. you should read Dan Brown Secret of Secrets to have a little extra fun while in Prague. Do Romania on your follow up visit, and pick some secondary cities to visit when you go back. Travel by train is 180 and you will meet lots of interesting ppl on the train. Istanbul is amazing, make sure to see the twirling dervishmos. Vienna is gorgeous, Prague is mysterious, and Budapest is a complete mind fuck.

It's been years since I visited Prague, but you could get giant mugs of fantastic pilsner for like $1.10. Even Tommy might be inclined to drink at a bar for deals like that
