I need one for my basement, which is humid and I’ve noticed some mold begin to grow. It’s only 500-600 square feet so I was planning on getting this 20 pint Midea dehumidifier https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08ZMY8BC8

But if I can get a benefit throughout the whole house (basement + two floors) I will go with a 50 pint.

Would going with a 50 pint be a waste and I should just get one for each floor that needs it?

Where could you possibly put it that it could service a basement and 2 floors? Really the only place would be in front of a central ac intake but that's counterproductive because the AC removes humidity more efficiently than a dehumidifier so feeding it already-dry air is a waste. If you don't have circulation, running a powerful dehumidifier is just going to bring the area around it to 40 but not affect distant areas.
