The most successful western game devs by far are the best Engineers because that’s fundamentally what western game dev IS. Gabe Newell — jfc he Engineered DirectX (the namesake for Xbox). Sweeney is also a gifted Engineer, and is said to have Engineered the Unreal Engine. Western game development is an exercise in Engineering. Miyamoto made Zelda because he was inspired by exploring the woods as a kid. Carmack made Doom because he was trying out cutting-edge Engineering techniques and wanted to inspire a school shooting. Totally different philosophies.
Westerners have Cliques. Nerds excel at Engineering but once they let the liberal artists have a go at the story and visual design aspects, all hell breaks loose. Kojima has salarymen. No one knows the name of the japs who Engineered the Fox Engine but if it were a western studio then that Nerd (or some hapless Tod-esque figure) would have Kojima’s job |

Non-shooters are more fun that shooters by default bc of FPS Fatigue imo. They should be trying to do something like palworld except more successful. How tf would people not be sick of shooters by now? Zoomer Losers aren’t going to abandon Fortnite after 27,000k hours just to play something Broadly Similar.

Shooters are honest, like horror. besides, Fortnite is third person and has all kinds of modes that are different from your typical western military shooter.
