easily top 3 and a contender for THE best. freddie mercury, whose body was no doubt being ravaged by the HIV virus, had the entire stadium, as well as a billion people watching on TV, under his control.

back when i got really bad with booze and coke, i'd sit in front of the tv every weekend night (assuming i wasn't out in someone's basement doing lines) watching youtube videos and pounding beer/doing bumps until like 4 am. i'd usually watch music videos - the queen live aid performance was an often-watched one for me. also, lots of new order.

I've watched it at least 10-15 times. It's easily in my top-5 live performances, which is insane considering I usually go with specific songs for top performances. Entire sets are too variable and you'll rarely get the utter perfection of the 1985 Live Aid performance.

Others in my top 5 are comparatively pathetic when compared to their body of work, but: Iris - Goo Goo Dolls (2004 Buffalo performance) is up there, too. I briefly dated a girl in college who went to that show; apparently it was awful because of the storms. Same with the 1999 performance of Watchtower by DMB & Santana in Philly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00EvXtJzlbI

I'll also add the 6/22/13 performance of "Spoon" by DMB w/Brandi Carlile, but only because of Jeff Coffin's performance. One of my favorite sax solos of all time.

I'm going to fight the hypo a little bit and name a show that I could plausibly have attended had circumstances been a bit different.

that has to be one of the most important shows in music history. the guys in the buzzcocks, JD/NO, morrissey, mark e smith of the fall, i think even david gedge of wedding present, etc. were like the only people there and nearly every person started a band, and very influential bands at that.

kind of crazy when you think about it.

I bought it on DVD shortly after it came out.

I've been here since the exodus, but I finished undergrad before I turned 21. So I'm probably one of the youngest that was around for that.

The lack of new blood around here makes me feel like I'm still in the youngest half of poasters.
