But have to admit once you've done it, every other place is a variant of the same theme. And the destination is usually filled with trash everywhere, the food is mediocre, there's no diet coke, only regular coke, the backpacker "resort" managers are always weirdos, and there's always the drugged out white trash Aussie horde anywhere you went.
Do remember island hopping in Indonesia and we went from the main Muslim island, which was littered with insane amount of trash everywhere despite beautiful beaches and all the scenic green hills you'd want, to a Christian island, which was spotlessly neat and tidy. Coincidence? I don't know. Did have some great snorkeling and amazing enormous clams that snapped shut when you floated over it.
Wonder what it's like today. It's been close to 20 years since I hit the Banana Pancake trail. Can't fathom tolerating the discomfort these days. |

More than that, I'd love to go back and wander around SE Asia, central Asia, pretty much wherever I want for 6 months. The biggest reason I don't is inability to leave stable job and get resume gap pwned before I have FIRE money--including kids' college money. |
