Subject: need URGENT WORK advice
I am currently working on a gigantic deal at a BORDERLINE V20 law firm (we oscillate sometimes out and in top 20 but likely not relevant for this).
I am working with a summer associate (I am only a 2nd year) and was haphazardly typing out comments to her in a work chat - i.e. I was going like Page 3, do xyz, Page 6, do xyz, etc.
Basically what happened was I looked back at my chat and it said "Page 18 - make text [n]igger" when I COMPLETELY obviously meant b (i use a standard keyboard where the b and n are adjacent). I of course realized this after I re-read up my comments but to my absolute HORROR, it showed a "read" sign on the work chat already. I edited it and did not say a word after that!
We both are in the office because of tight weekend deadline and on the same floor. Once I realized this mistake, I IMMEDIATELY ran to the mens bathroom and went to a stall and am typing seeking YOUR advice on what to do right now.
Because I have to walk past her office to leave my CURRENT plan is to wait here for 2-3 more hours (safe she would have left by then), and then chat her asking if she is still in the office to see if she could check to see if my space heater is still on. Assuming she doesn't respond or tells me she left, coast would be clear and I would go home.
I feel pretty good about the above but question is whether this is something I should pro-actively speak to HR or the partner on the deal about?
If relevant for people's thinking since I am not oblivious to the fact that height matters in professional environments, I am 5'8 BUT for for all intents and purposes, you can consider me 5'9 for this as my Allen Edmonds are triple-soled (makes my feet bleed a lot though lol).
any urgent advice would be VERY much appreciated. Thank you for your attention to this matter
