Ferneyhough, the fraud and charlatan, is just SPS with no redeeming qualities. It's just unnecessary complexity and near-randomness that ordinary people laugh at (and should). |

The interesting ones had minimalist aspects IIRC. The problem with the recordings is the piano preparation and resultant sound varies wildly with each recording. The technique of modifying the sound of the piano by interacting with the strings themselves is not new. Henry Cowell first explored this around 100 or so years ago. John Cage took the idea further in his pieces for prepared piano, which I mentioned earlier. |
