In my experience, what will happen is you will eventually do something really stupid while drunk (probably a combination of being a little more drunk than normal + some kind of bad luck) that will lead to significant personal or professional fallout and lead to significant regret + others monitoring your drinking. DUI crash, major fuckup at work, cheat and get caught, something like that. At that point you will have to sober up or blow up your life. And by my late twenties I needed coke or Adderall to be able to drink past 10pm.

i never had any serious repercussions (which i am certain has a lot tondo with sheer dumb luck) but eventually gave it up because alcohol wrecks your looks and the weight gain creep and fitness impact can’t be avoided in middle age. i’m a vainmo, so i chose staying lean and younger looking but sometimes i really miss the boozy lifestyle. it’s fucking crazy how much harder i can push it with exercise if i’m at 20 drinks a week instead of 60+. the bros i know who never cut back all look rough now, always red and blotchy, sweaty alcohol bloated heads, bad skin, spare tire, it’s easy to spot the physical degradation from binging.
