Debris of all sorts piled up against a bridge and then ignited into a giant blaze that even the floodwater couldn’t put out, so masses of people were just getting washed into a fiery incinerator.

Also there was apparently a random *barbed wire factory* in town that did a lot of slicing and dicing once the meatbag-filled waters were running past it. Real Event Horizon shit.

If you visit Johnstown, there's an old church near the town center that stood up to the flood while surrounding buildings got washed away.

Also it was pretty directly the fault of Andrew Carnegie’s hunting club that owned (and poorly maintained) the dam that failed but no one ever got in any significant trouble for it.
