he was interested in investing from childhood and his dad was a stockbroker, so there's that. he skipped a year of school and finished college in 3 years. he apparently had a photographic or near photographic memory and could do TVM calculations in his head, and didn't need a calculator or computer

for most people active stockpicking is probably the same as gambling on horses or sporting events. it's not totally arbitrary but there's a large element of luck
