In hundreds of texts and calls Katie never even obliquely refers to a killing. All her cash was obviously from being a bottle girl in the clubs.

State had a shit ton of evidence, but was monotone and inept at using her slide show, so everyone was sleepy. He could have scored points being snappy and forceful.
He started with a great metaphor: State is trying to sell you this house and Im the inspector, Ill point out all the problems they are covering up.
He never mentioned the analogy again. He should have married himself to that shit. Analogized one theme to the house's foundation (State's zeal to get to Adelsons makes everything suspect), another to the plumbing (Can't trust testimony of flipper, he's full of crap), another to the roof (gang kingpin was supposed to be shooter, why'd it switch for no reason?), etc. Five or six house themes and you're done.
Draw a fucking shitty house on the white board, line by line, point by point.
Close: Ladies and gentleman, on a death penalty case, the government wants you to pay the full price for this house, and there are just too many questions, too many shaky floors, too many doors theyve never opened, kept locked from you. You would not buy this house IRL, don't do it with a man's life. |

What I think the concern is, is that Garcia's entire theory is that Rivera was the one who was the triggerman and this was related to some Latin Kings stuff. Rivera is only blaming Garcia because he got a good deal in exchange for saying that. Rivera is the boss and told Garcia to come with him, and Garcia thought they were doing a robbery, not a murder.
Obviously there's issues with this, but it's a jury we're talking about. |
