redditors are terrible but I feel like the last 5 years or so, r/baseball has become a huge whinefest over umpires' performances. half of the most popular posts revolve around umpire "scorecards" and clips of marginal strike calls, then batters throwing tantrums
take this post about a called strike on yankees player last night: https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/1n7zczo/lowlight_jazz_chisholm_jr_is_heated_after_being/
huge cringey hand wringing devolving in league-wide complaints about umpires. As a yankee fan it's a pretty good pitch and batter has no right looking at close pitches on 3-2, 2 out, especially with no one on. but every day it's a new hysteric post upvoted by everyone about terrible umpires. growing up I never remember people whinging about umps this much aside from the occasional one-off bitching. additionally, data seems to say that umps are getting much, much better
everyone's cheering for ABS/auto pitch calling but to be honest it just sounds awful and bloodless and unrealistic for a three-dimensional strike zone

That was a nasty pitch, crazy movement on that. I don't see anything wrong with the strike call
People who whine about calls in baseball are 95% of the time just totally biased and have zero self awareness. Every time I watch one of these clips the people whining about it are wrong and the ump is right
In general sports fans are ridiculously biased and it comes off as really cringe when you're casually watching a game with some people and they're getting legitimately emotionally upset about calls that are totally fine and they're just angry that the calls are going against their team. It's like kindergarten tier behavior

/r/baseball blows
umpiring level these days is incredible. they are exponentially better than the eric gregg gays of the past. the strike zone box on tv has been a disaster for whiny bald manboobed baseball redditors to complain about. in reality, even when the umps miss, its usually really borderline.
