When considering lawyers per capita, the United States has a very high density compared to most other industrialized nations, but it is not the highest in the world.

According to a December 2023 analysis, here is how the U.S. compares to other countries on a lawyers-per-person basis:

Brazil: 1 lawyer per 194 people

Italy: 1 lawyer per 201 people

United States: 1 lawyer per 256 people

Spain: 1 lawyer per 316 people

Germany: 1 lawyer per 524 people

United Kingdom: 1 lawyer per 648 people

Several factors contribute to the high number of lawyers in the U.S.:

Demand for legal services: The U.S. legal system is highly complex, creating a substantial demand for legal professionals in various specialties, including corporate law, public defense, and civil litigation.

Market size: The U.S. has the largest legal market in the world, which naturally accommodates a large number of lawyers.

Differences in legal systems: Not all legal systems are structured the same way. Countries like China and Japan, for example, have far fewer lawyers per capita, reflecting different legal traditions and levels of litigation.

Also the kind of law people practice is just what makes money not what people actually need. Like if you’re a business with hundreds of contracts to review no one can do it competently. You can try hiring a lawyer but he’ll always be “not that kind of lawyer.”

David Bowie on "LA": https://www.youtube.com/shorts/YjyeU2N--x0

Robert Redford on "LA":

Robert Redford, a Santa Monica native, was famously critical of Los Angeles and Hollywood throughout his life, citing environmental concerns and its superficial culture as reasons for his distaste.

Here are some of his quotes regarding Los Angeles:

"I would see my hometown, Los Angeles, change. Green space and orange groves gave way to cement, freeways flooded with traffic, and air pollution, all in the name of 'progress.' I felt like I was losing my home".

In an interview with Rocky Mountain Magazine in 1978, he compared Los Angeles to his beloved Utah, calling L.A. "phony and superficial".

When discussing his move to Utah in a 2014 interview with the Hollywood Reporter, he stated, "I wanted to be away from Los Angeles because I felt it was going to the dogs".

During a 2013 interview with Esquire, he remarked of his childhood home of Santa Monica, "This was a beautiful city once, and it isn't anymore".

Beyond Los Angeles, Redford also expressed broader disdain for the Hollywood Mahchine™ and the celebrity it created.

He worked to create his own independent path by founding the Sundance Institute to support independent filmmakers and provide an alternative to the traditional studio system.

Robert Redford provided several additional direct quotes expressing his disdain for Los Angeles and the broader Hollywood culture.

(1) Regarding Los Angeles and California

- On rampant development: In a 2013 Esquire interview, Redford stated, "I get itchy—traffic, freeways, out-of-control development". When discussing his Santa Monica hometown, he said, "There was never a land-use plan. This was a beautiful city once, and it isn't anymore".

- On the loss of its natural identity: In another quote, he spoke of how "cement, freeways flooded with traffic, and air pollution" replaced the green spaces and orange groves of Los Angeles, making him feel like he was "losing my home".

- On his motivation for leaving: In a 2014 interview, he remarked, "I wanted to be away from Los Angeles because I felt it was going to the dogs. I was just getting more and more anxious about wanting out".

(2) Regarding Hollywood and the film industry

- On the industry's focus on money: Redford criticized the corporate mindset of the mainstream film industry, stating that "money is the end," while for a filmmaker, "money is a means to an end".

- On the industry's narrow focus: He believed that the mainstream film industry had become "narrower and narrower," following youth trends and blockbuster demands at the expense of "the more humanistic side of cinema".

-On the hypocrisy: In a 2005 interview, Redford described how he was unfairly portrayed by some as "not being credible" simply because he was an actor.

"India" has two million lawyers, you say?

How quaint.

Not one of them has ever had to endure the specific, soul-crushing humiliation of having Tabitha from HR explain the new ADA-compliant restroom break policy while a customer, reeking of patchouli and entitlement, demands a refund on bruised organic kale.

Do you know what it is to be credentialed, to have mastered the intricacies of the Written Word and corporate litigation, only to be rendered invisible by the sheer gravitational pull of prole incompetence?

Our glut is not in numbers; it is a surplus of wa$ted lives like mine, stacked higher than any case reporter in a forgotten $hitbort archive.

How dare they. How dare they reduce me to a simple "footnote" - disgusting.

This is fine.
