TDP only tells you the max power the CPU will draw, which almost never happens. What actually matters is idle power draw. Intel's idle power draw is like half of AMD's right now because their e-cores work better and the CPU governor is better. AMD has accused Microsoft of rigging Windows to better manage Intel e-cores, but that's easy to disprove because you can observe the same discrepancy in Linux.

People are saying the new all e-core Xeons will be a niche product for telecom companies, but these same people are also fretting over the future energy costs of big data centers. Lets see how much of "niche product" those Xeons are two years from now. They still have memory bandwidth and PCIe lanes for days, same as the regular Xeons

All these people are missing the point. 288 cores on one die just means 80% of your cores are idling most of the time, consuming no juice. Alternatively you have 1 chip with 288 cores doing the same workload as 4 chips with 64 cores. Either way it drinks less juice. These tards all over the internet are obsessing over things that don't matter to the end user:
