That's the whole point of a kneel down. In any other situation during a live play, an athlete is always positioning and carrying themselves and priming their body in a way to defend themselves

Date: January 17th, 2026 11:13 PM Author: pea-brained useless brakes lodge there's been fumbles on kneel downs. the defense is playing to keep their season alive. there's no evidence of intentional injury. every down in the NFL carries a risk of injury. they could have had him kneel from shotgun, but they wanted to be as close to the field goal as possible, and that was a calculated risk they wound up paying for.
there should probably be something like a fair catch signal when they can indicate it and can't run a play to prevent injuries like this. |
