Compact low-end vacuums have ridiculous 90 degree turns in the internal hose assemblies that prevents a powerful suction needed for real cleaning. They'll clog up with fur, and they certainly can't handle hay. |

The bags started being difficult to find, but are still being sold if you know someone who knows a guy. If you see a vintage Hoover upright at a garage sale that still works, BUY IT. It will likely look like shit and be dusty and dirty, but it cleans up like a dream, and you will never buy another vaccum for the rest of your life.
