DA’s office “planning” to drop charges in alleged Aurora kidnapping attempt
DENVER (KDVR) — The 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office stated to FOX31 on Friday, that they plan to “drop charges” against a man for an alleged kidnapping attempt in 2024.
Solomon Galligan, 33, was charged back in April 2024 for one count of attempted kidnapping, after allegedly attempting to grab a 11-year-old boy during recess at Black Forest Hills Elementary School.
Previously, Aurora police told FOX31 that Galligan is a sex offender, whose registry is linked to the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office.
Following the arrest, Galligan went through a competency evaluation, where he was later found incompetent, said the DA’s office to FOX31 in 2024.
The DA’s office stated they are “planning to drop charges against the defendant, which is required by law when they are found mentally incompetent to stand trial.”
After the incident, parents of students at the Aurora Elementary School wrote a 10-page letter and petitioned it to the Cherry Creek School District leaders, calling for an independent investigation into the school’s response when the alleged crime took place.
Cherry Creek School District held an investigation, which lead to a change in leadership and additional security measures for the elementary school.
