Why do newish games "deserve" a place in the backlog but old ones don't

Maybe because PS1 was revealed to be a Joke by the PS1 Classic and N64 is considered to have had No Games by Console Historians. I think digital purchases are ALWAYS in a backlog somehow. But if you have unplayed N64 cartridges or PS2 games, it doesn't count. PS2 games have revealed themselves in time to have just been showcases for DVD technology, and therefore they do not deserve a place in one's Backlog unless they are ported to Steam.
