Pennies, dimes, nickels, quarters, half dollars, and dollars only. If you have a $120 restaurant tab, you are pulling out some combination of coins to pay for it. If an establishment requires a card to open a tab/hold a reservation, you can do that, but you must settle the tab with coins. You may not pay anything in any other way.

Rent/mortgage make this difficult. Other than that, I could go a year not buying much.

Can you just do it for one year? Or is this a for-life situation? It would be well worth it for one year.

You would just make a bunch of trips to the bank with buckets of dollar coins until your mortgage is paid off. They have to take them.

Once you become a coincuck, you never go back. No stockpiling the coins for a year and then going back to normal. If you want the optionality of just going for a year, the amount drops to $100K.

So, what happens if my mortgage is sold to a Rocket Mortgage-type place and I can only pay my mortgage electronically or via a check? Am I allowed to deposit coins at the branch of my local bank and tell them to send a check to Rocket Mortgage? Or am I fucked and have to refinance?

I suggest you pay off your mortgage in coins before that can happen. You cannot launder your coins through the bank and have them cut a check to rocket mortgage. If you get foreclosed on, though, you could always just buy another house using your coins.

So, my only option is to drive to Rocket Mortgage HQ with a bulldozer full of coins and pay off my mortgage that way? I guess I could try their 800 number. "Hi. I have a strange situation. I can afford to pay my mortgage, but I need to give you a huge stack of quarters. How can I make that happen?" Now that I say that, I'm tempted to call my lender and ask them that outside of the hypo just to see what they say.

Taxes are another potential issue. I remember reading an article about a dude who tried to pay his taxes in cash. They finally let him, but he had to drive to warehouse in some distant city or something crazy like that.

No. The actual vendor must take coins. So you can stay at the Hilton if they'll take your cash, but you can't have some fag put it on their credit card and then pay him in coins.

When I was a teenager in the 90's, my friends and I thought it would be funny to pay a $2.50 bus fare using only pennies. The bus driver and everyone on the bus were fucking pissed. I'm not sure I would want to live my life that way.

I dont think this is possible realistically. Places would refuse to accept payment in coins over $10

Places get pissed at paying for something with even 10 coins. A lot of people dont even think $1 coins are real

I'd have to resort to being a drifter, living on ~$50 a day

OR

I would launder the coins by paying someone I know in coins beforehand and having them buy things for me after they deposit the coins in the bank

Private businesses in the US are generally not legally required to accept cash or coins for purchases, according to the Federal Reserve Board. While cash is "legal tender for all debts," this does not mean a store must accept it for every transaction, allowing them to set their own policies.

Key Takeaways regarding Coin Refusal:

Legal Standing: No federal statute mandates that private businesses must accept currency or coins for payments.

Business Policy: Businesses can set their own policies, such as refusing cash, refusing large amounts of coins, or requiring exact change.

Exceptions: Some state or local laws may require businesses to accept cash, but there is no universal federal requirement.

Unless there's an end date when you can cash out, this doesn't seem feasible logistically. Only possibility would be if the hypo includes you receiving $10M in dollar coins delivered to your garage each year.

I'm not going to melt them. I'll live a life of barter, where I acquire things via $10M per year (in perpetuity) in gold dollar coins. Those who accept the dollar coins can do with them as they please.

It'll require some changes in life, but I can make it happen for what'll end up being hundreds of millions of dollars.
