For domestic, do you just book directly into first, or do you ever rely on the EXP upgrade systttem? I find so many people nowadays book first class (either with cash or they piss away miles) that EXP upgrades from coach hardly ever happen. |

Date: March 1st, 2026 9:16 AM Author: Carnelian Meetinghouse I was using my miles on AA almost exclusively for JAL F awards, but avail is Soo NOT CR these days and you can move AMEX pts to CX and book 30 days before AA get access with way better avail so for now not sure what to do with AA miles.
For domestic AA flights I booked F almost 100% of the time because I don’t want to roll the dice. The best program value comes in booking intercon basic econ tickets for a pittance and using SWU to fly biz. I have 3 SWU expiring end of March I need to burn ASAP, but i’ve already booked essentially all flights through Jan 4, 2027. |

Just search the intercon leg to verify avail. Upgrade space is open on like every BA shorthaul flight. The big problem is AA cut TATL frequencies to LHR for winter sched so avail has been hard to come by, used to be multiple seats open almost every day.
