I like Warren Buffet's quote about it at the BRK shareholder meeting:

"If all the people in this room owned all of the farmland in the United States and you offered me a 1% interest in it at a bargain price of $25 billion, I'll write your check this afternoon. If you tell me you own 1% of the apartment houses in the United States and you offer me a 1% interest, I'll write you a check. Very simple.

Now if you told me you own all of the Bitcoin in the world and you offered it to me for $25, I wouldn't take it because what would I do with it? I'd have to sell it back to you one way or another. It isn't going to do anything."

Correct. You’ve correctly intuited that he doesn’t support investing in gold either.

Gold is actually not the best example because it does have practical application (it’s used in medicine, electronics, etc) , so all the gold in the world is intrinsically worth more than $25.

But the point remains that the price appreciation over time is due to inflation and the idea that the next person will pay more for it. It doesn’t really do anything or compound to become more valuable over time, so it’s not a good investment compared to e.g. a strong company that’s growing earnings over time.
