Poast new message in this thread

I applied online after reading someone's poast awhile back, not thinking I would succeed. I got burned out from work and quit two years ago. I'm 55 and can't get SS until I'm 62, so I figured it couldn't hurt to apply. It only took 6 months to get approved for SSDI and I'll be getting $3,917 per month until I die.
I've mainly been living modestly off my VA disability and savings for the past couple of years.
I own a small home free and clear and have no children or wife to support. My 401K "retirement" account is only around $200,000. Despite many financial failures throughout my life, I can't believe I never have to work again.
I will be living pretty comfortably on roughly $8,000/mo. God is Good!

Congrats on your success. Never working again sounds 180.
What qualifies one for SSDI? How do they distinguish between people who are sick of working (but could work) and people who really can't work?
