I've yet to see any kind of official Russian statement that they would be willing to consider a cease fire along current lines. In the past, they've always said they need full control of the provinces they've annexed before they will agree to stop fighting.
If they do make it officially clear that they've changed that position, then it would be a huge deal and a sign that Russia knows they can't win. But it hasn't happened yet. |

Date: August 8th, 2025 1:28 PM Author: ,.,,.,.,,,,,,..................... Ukraine has spent huge amounts of money building defensive lines behind their current positions in the Donbas. They won't just order their troops to give up those positions they have fought for, without compensation.
One possible compromise would be to allow the US to take over the huge nuclear plant currently in Russian hands and direct a large part of the power it produces (after being restarted) to Ukraine. But it would have to be some kind of quid pro quo like that- Zelensky isn't going to tell his army to just abandon the rest of the Donbas based upon mere promises from Russia. |
