Plenty of people actively manage their 401ks. If you felt there wasn't a good investment opportunity it's rational to hold cash. Considering 15 years ago was during ITE it would not be surprising that someone was holding a substantial amount of cash. I'm sure plenty of people have substantial amount of cash in their 401k right now because they're worried the market is overvalued. Why do you think SPAXX has a value of $450b right now?! |

If a solvent company was liquidated for some reason all the profts that could have been issued as a dividend would be owed to the shareholders.
Choosing to invest in companies that reinvest profits isn't nad or even speculative. Every company reinveste at least a portion of their profits if they want to grow at all. Berkshire Hathaway, the posterchild for traditional, value investing, does not issue a divided. And I am happy for Warren Buffet to hold what could have been my divided to reinvest in other things. |
