Not gonna watch a video on this, but is it because Japanese people actually have reverence for their work and respect the fans/customers? Yes they want to make a profit, but it's more about maximizing the quality of the product. Western corporate types act like it would be crazy to not cash in on microtransactions, appealing to largest audience possible, generating hype with gimmicks. But it's the opposite for Japanese people.
ER was awesome because the difficulty wasn't based on a setting, and wasn't strictly linear going from easy early game to difficult late game. Also great that at least early on, you couldn't figure out the best weapons, builds, etc. Made you feel like you were playing a game before the internet could spoil all the secrets
