One kid thought he could do the long walk and win just by walking of course and by occasionally eating olives from a jar he had brought along. He thought the olives would give him super special energy. Decades later I remember that dumb detail.

I liked the story at the time and sort of broke it down into its constituent parts because it was a simple short story style model to follow for my own short stories which I used to write a lot of as a kid. This was what maybe 1988, 89?

I guess this recollection etc is evidence of my assumed 140s iq who knows.

I dislike Stephen King. I don't like his stupid little mantras, I don't like how every minor character is either a religious fanatic or a racist, I don't like how he's clearly an aspiring screenplay writer forced to work as a novelist for some reason, I don't like how he tries so hard to be "realistic" his stories become grotesque, with the farting and the gross food and how every time someone falls down they break a bone. I liked The Eyes of the Dragon, the novel where Stephen King is trying to be someone other than Stephen King.

op is spaceporn ljl. guy thinks he has a 140 iq because he remembers a detail from a short story he read when he was a junior shitlaw associate.

my theory is that he started molesting his adopted son because he's both fascinated by and mad about the kid's "normal" genitalia. it started out with him looking at the kid too long when the kid was changing or whatever, but then it became sexual. and his subconscious is pushing him to do these things bc he knows it hurts and damages the child, and sp secretly hates the child for having normal penis and balls.

the fact that he got called out IRL by a waitress is pretty damning. i used to think the molestation stuff was a joke, but i don't think so anymore.

is that the brain you think it must be hell to live inside? i tend to agree.

this is extremely plausible and I increasingly believe it too

there is no way he goes completely ballistic like he did for years about some unnoticed threads on an obscure tweetblog if he isn't doing something like this (Shakespeare saw him coming, "The lady doth protest too much, methinks"), and your hypothesis of the psychological process rings true

all jokes aside, it's really disturbing and i hope we're wrong. but i do honestly think he's done things to that child. again, not out of lust or anything, but out of a subconscious hatred directed at the kid for being "normal"

also, yeah, why would you lose it on a tweetblog about accusations of pedophilia? he's accused me of it 100 times and i just say "oh yeah, i'm real into that lol" and move on.
