big difference between qualifying and getting it. i had to drag my near 80 at the time mom w/ me to the french consulate in chicago to get them to finally issue me a passport. that was with birth certificates, all the paperwork in order, etc.
but yeah, once you have an eu passport it allows you to:
- live, work, and retire freely across the eu and iceland. don't forget, a ton of nice islands across the world are part of the eu.
- worst case, tap into the 'free' healthcare of whatever country you have citizenship in
- for french, it allows you to avoid extradition to the us if you commit a crime (roman polanski)
if you move / retire to the eu with 'american money' you will be absolutely living the high life. euros are poors who don't own shit.

there are definitely risks in the case of collapse. europe is ttt compared to america when it comes to personal freedoms. we could all probably be locked up just for stuff we post on xo and most eu countries (except for sweden) were covid cucks with lockdowns and restrictions.
that said, it's still a good bail out destination if you are bringing over american levels of wealth. you can also generally get around europe w/o a car, etc.
consider hiring a lawyer/service to do the paperwork for you. i only went the route i did since i had the help of my mom, and even then, it involved a trip to chicago and dealing with nonsense.

Yes a lot of benefits like Rick Panama said. You should definitely do it
Also you can pass it to your kids so even if you don’t see the benefit, they might

It’s pretty pointless unless you plan to actually live in Europe. You will make a lot less $ unless you get lucky. The culture is very different and while you may think America sucks you at least feel like you belong there. It may get old waking up feeling like an outsider every day. You at least have to be ready for that reality. But sure, if you actually want to live and work in Europe, then do it.
