Please exercise caution in poasting material you would not like repoasted by assholes. This is the Internet, after all. You can't control people absolutely.
Also, mods need to set a good example and be particularly cautious about sharing info that could be used to harass them. Part of being a mod is getting fucked with by anyone who knows they can get a rise out of you. They will intentionally put you in a position where you feel you have to use your mod powers for something relating to you, and then you will look bad. It makes me look bad, too.
I hate rules, but I guess this needed to be addressed.

It's the Pandora's box theory, cat-out-of-the-bag theory, etc.. But I also don't want to say that if someone does poast something private in a lapse of judgment or whatever it may be, they've forfeited their right to privacy forever. That could create a chilling effect.
The penalty for revealing something to the public is that it's out there, and it could be brought up again. But I don't want to condone repoasting it repeatedly, either, and say that it's only a violation if it's spam.
You shouldn't poast info you don't want to be out there in the general "group mind." I'll do my best to keep things from being repoasted, but I can't guarantee anything. And if you keep enabling it by continually revealing too much, I can guarantee less of an effort to protect your privacy.
Does that sound reasonable? |

Think about it this way -
Whats the worst case scenario if your pic (that you posted in the first place) is posted? Paosters won't post their own pics (not a huge deal), or an outed person might leave (sucks for that person - but they poa their pic in the first place, which means they like attention, which means they probably wont leave). Even if they leave, you lost 1 person. The bort can survive the loss of any one poa, it's hapepned time and time again.
Whats the worst case scenario with rogue mods? Many people will leave/stop poasting entirely. Far worse for the greatbort.

I understand the impulse but bad modding culture always starts with vague rules that can be interpreted in increasingly restrictive ways. I think this standard could be abused to allow for a LOT of modding, and like non sequitur above I think over-the-top shitmodding hurts the board more than the occasional outing/collective ridicule of individual posters. |

I can't figure out how to define this without some gray area. What's most important is that the only people who have the ability to hide poasts and delete threads are people who understand that gray area, and mod selectively and sparingly. I'll work on making sure mods don't overreach and I'm going to audit the mod records from the past month. |

2) I disagree as to the permanent right to revoke you own outing information. I think people should not download and host outing information elsewhere, nor share outing information that came from ape detective work, but if I post a fucking imgur of myself or my dog, I expect people so see it.
3) I don't see why RSF brother threads get the protection they do. I think it's shitty and I would not tease someone about that, but knowledge that his brother is dead does not make him any more outable at all, unless you already know his name. It's shitty but it should not defy any law I can think of. It's like saying "Benzo was arrested in 2011 for larceny - lol @ him" - but it's not like posting the actual police report.
4) I really wish you would confirm the rule against posting spoilers of recent movies, pop culture things. Unlike spam, n-threads, or even petty fights, the only think that is accomplished by posting spoilers is to be a shithead and ruin people's experiences on the board - and drive away traffic. |
