He was around in the free world long enough to realize that it was never going to happen for him romantically. Apparently idolized Elliot Rodger.
He thought he would get away with the crime but for his mistake of leaving the sheath, but he still wouldn't take back his crimes. He really wanted to gut a bunch of coeds like a fish. If he didn't get caught he would have killed again until caught because he'd just have more bloodlust.
The worst day of this guy's life besides all the other days being stuck inside his head all alone was having to sit through a bunch of families finger wagging at him until they finally shut up.
Now he gets free room and board for life, gets a TV, books, and gets to play on an iPad all day. They even let you send emails to family members and shit. Will probably get a ton of fanmail. Zero remorse that will eat at him, only regret is he didn't kill more people.

So phone evidence is obvious but probably not enough to convict.
They have him in his white Hyundai all over the place though from Ring camera shit. Really dumb to take his own car. A week after the killings he changed over from PA to WA license plates so he knew that was a possible angle to get caught from.
Vague but one witness saw a tall slender man with bushy eyebrows. Maybe not enough to identify in court. The theory is that he was so exhausted from killing 4 people with a knife he didn't have any energy to kill the two other roommates, who were likely drunk and just went back to bed and didn't call the cops for 8 hours.
But the main evidence was DNA from a Ka-Bar sheath under the victim found him through a database. He was having so much fun killing he left his damn sheath at the scene. Without this they might have never got him. |

He then ran downstairs after her and then killed her and her boyfriend, who was still asleep. Seems like he immediately left the scene after that and forgot about the sheath due to adrenaline rush. It's interesting they don't seem to be able to figure out exactly who the target was. They think it was Maddie but Kaylee was stabbed more times and mutilated beyond recognition. Xana was stabbed the most times but mostly because she fought back. They still have no clue how he picked the targets. My instinct says 100% a romantic/sexual crime. He had to have felt a profound sense of rage towards the blonde biddies. Can't relate but something about them really triggered this nutcase's wrath. |
