They’ve decided it has to be done by July 4, 2026. Applicants won’t know they’ve been selected until late September 2026 and they have to be done by June 1.
Only US Citizens can apply and these are supposed to be done in a classic statue style. There aren’t enough good American sculptors to get it done in that timeline. Abstract and modernist works aren’t allowed. Quality is immediately a potential issue, and that’s even if any decent sculptors are applying.
There aren’t enough US foundries to make this timeline work, and most book out months in advance. So now you’re looking at Chinese outsourcing or cheap construction.
No location has been picked, so absolutely no work has started. Again, this is supposed to be open in 13 months and no one even knows where.
