Annapurna: Out of every 3 that summit, 1 dies. Why do people do this?

I like mountain climbing but JFC that's bad chances.

No boomer is doing Annapurna. Maybe they do the trek, but they are not climbing the mountain unless they are an absolute pro.

Kangchenjunga and K2 are harder. K2 has still not been climbed in winter.

Other than cho oyu and hidden peak, all the 8000ers have pretty crazy death to summit ratios.

Have you watched the doc "the summit" on Netflix bro? It's 180 about those 11 deaths on k2 a few years ago

aren't that stats from annapurna skewed because of 1 or 2 really bad expeditions? i think just not many people have climbed it in total.

also, check out this bro who just climbed it by himself in a few hours: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdLG64rEChQ

Steck was flame because he always took the shortest routes. He literally sketched out the easiest possible ways up and waited until absolute perfect conditions. It was all flame so he could make money giving pep talks to iBankers and charge Hillary Clinton money for appearances, which was his real job. The expeditions in the 70s were much more challenging. They didn't use speed techniques they just trudged on one foot after another through the most difficult passages. It was a point of pride that they did things the absolute hardest way.
