This is what happened to British troops in 1815 who had just kicked Napoleon's ass:

The serious fighting ended by eight in the morning. A short while later Jackson and the ranking active British officer, John Lambert, agreed to a ceasefire to allow each side to collect its wounded and bury its dead. George Gleig wasn’t part of the British hospital detail, but he wanted to assess the damage his comrades had suffered. “Prompted by curiosity, I mounted my horse and rode to the front,” he explained. What he observed burned an image in his brain. “Of all the sights I ever witnessed, that which met me there was beyond comparison the most shocking and the most humiliating. Within the narrow compass of a few hundred yards were gathered together nearly a thousand bodies, all of them arrayed in British uniforms. Not a single American was among them; all were English, and they were thrown by dozens into shallow holes, scarcely deep enough to furnish them with a slight covering of earth. An American officer stood by smoking a cigar, and apparently counting the slain with a look of savage exultation, and repeating over and over to each individual that approached him, that their loss amounted only to eight men killed and fourteen men wounded.”

- Andrew Jackson bio.

It made the world take US arms seriously. Earlier in the war the British had taken our capitol with little difficulty.

My understanding is that toward the end of the battle the retreating British units ran through the briers and they ran through the brambles, and they ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go. They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch them, on down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

Most historians believe that after the battle the Americans marched back to town in their dirty ragged pants and danced all night with them pretty girls from France. They couldn't understand 'em but they had the sweetest charms and they understood 'em better when they got 'em in their arms.

our own US Army didn't even take itself seriously until well into the Civil War. That's why it wasn't considered dishonorable when Lee defected. Literally no one thought "you better not tangle with the US Army after what happened in New Orleans," in part because Jackson was acting outside the chain of command. That's also why no one ever emulates Jackson BTW.

well jackson is generally regarded as a fairly transformative president, there is pre jackson us federal gov't and post jackson, and had the war kicked off early the south's odds of victory skyrocket, nobody ever gives him credit for that but the union didn't have unlimited irish scum to toss into a meatgrinder at that point

Monroe had no desire to see Jackson loose again, and the war scare—war hope, in Jackson’s case—passed when Spain ratified the treaty. Jackson was left to find his therapeutic violence vicariously. Andrew Donelson was attending the national military academy at West Point, with his uncle’s partial approval. Jackson endorsed the soldier’s calling but distrusted the War Department types who ran the academy. Donelson, a soul after his uncle’s independent spirit, had defended a fellow cadet unfairly treated—in Donelson’s view—by the academy’s administration. Jackson applauded his nephew’s stand for the right. “My dear nephew, I rejoice in the interest you have taken in aiding to procure redress for innocence unjustly injured. Such acts are the buds of virtue.” Jackson told Donelson to watch out for himself as well. “If ever a superior forgets what he owes to you and to his station, and attempts to insult or maltreat you as has been the case with others, you have my permission to resign.” Should Donelson suffer physical abuse, he had his uncle’s permission—and encouragement—to retaliate in the most vigorous manner. “If the superior attempts either to strike or kick you, put him to instant death.”

- end quote -

Solid advice to his nephew- kill any superior officer at West Point who tried to strike him. Jackson was a major hothead- would challenge someone to a duel on the drop of a hat.
