You have to send an application with inventory numbers weeks ahead of time. You can't just show up and demand things that take an hour to locate magically appear in front of you.
A lot of the smaller museums on the continent have more interesting regional-specific collections with rarities the big museums don't have.
Brits find tons of buried stuff as well. Some is interesting and important; most isn't. Interestingly, hoards in the UK are reported up through the local coroner... it makes sense, but it's strange from a US perspective.
